'Yellow Pygmy' is an early producing, compact dwarf tomato that produces pretty golden yellow cherry-sized fruits with a near translucent quality about them. My friend Julianna gave me a small packet of seed about a decade ago and it's become one of those staple varieties that I come back to year-after-year. Has a nice, tart flavour and a slightly dry bite.
This is another excellent choice for container growing. The growth habit is sturdy, but elongated with slightly crinkly (rugose) leaves. It has an almost delicate, fairy quality to me, especially once the small star-like flowers show up. The plant grows to about 18" or so tops. I've had good productivity in a 12" deep container, but I wouldn't suggest going much smaller. And as with all tomatoes, it should have its own pot.
Special Notes: Dwarf (determinate). Early producer. 50-55 days. Great container variety. Ornamental.
No less than 10 seed per packet.
Seed Starting and Growing: Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.
About You Grow Girl Seeds:
All of the seeds that I sell were lovingly homegrown and harvested by me, small scale, in my urban garden using organic methods only -- no chemicals or pesticides whatsoever. Tomato varieties are isolated to stay true using the flower bagging method and I test for germination quality. I take special care in choosing varieties that I find unusual, interesting and fabulous, and/or especially suitable for growing in small space gardens.
