'Filius Blue' Hot Pepper (Capsicum annum) is a beautifully ornamental and compact hot pepper plant that is great for growing in containers and tucked into small spaces. The plant features prostrate growth that tends to cap out at 1-2' maximum (most container grown plants will be on the shorter side), with deep green leaves shaded with purple. Even plants grown in containers will produce heaps of small, round, purple/blue fruit.
This pepper is HOT, coming in around 30,000-50,000 Scoville units, especially when the fruit is picked purple and unripe. They mellow out once ripened to red. I prefer them at this stage since the flavour also develops and deepens.
'Filius Blue' is a great contender for mixed plantings. Try pairing it in a large, feature container with other ornamental edibles such as purple shiso, 'Purple Ruffles' basil, Dragonhead balm, or 'Redbor' kale.
Special Notes: Open-pollinated. Can be grown in the ground or in pots. I suggest 12"+ since smaller pots will turn out a smaller plant and harvest. Ornamental plant with shades of purple in the leaves and purple fruit that ripens to red.
Approximately 20 seeds per packet.
Seed Starting and Growing:Start seed indoors 10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Can take 10-20 days to germinate.
About You Grow Girl Seeds:
All of the seeds that I sell were lovingly homegrown and harvested by me, small scale, in my urban garden using organic methods only -- no chemicals or pesticides whatsoever. Tomato varieties are isolated to stay true using the flower bagging method and I test for germination quality. I take special care in choosing varieties that I find unusual, interesting and fabulous, and/or especially suitable for growing in small space gardens.
