Ditmarsher Tomato for Containers (Very Early, Very Compact)
'Ditmarsher' is very similar in growth habit and size to another can't-live-without variety, 'Whippersnapper.' Both have a tumbling habit that is suited to container growing, although I find that 'Ditmasrher' can be somewhat more low-growing and is better suited to window boxes and hanging baskets.
On the surface they look similar with an oval shape and cherry size. Where they differ is in colour and flavour. The 'Ditmarsher' fruit has a more vibrant red colour and a a richer, sweeter flavour compared with 'Whippersnapper's' pink appearance and tart bite.
Special Notes: Very compact determinate variety has a tumbling habit that is great for small spaces and especially good for container growing. Red, cherry-sized fruit. Be sure to allow it to ripen to red before harvest. Open-pollinated. Early-season. 55 days. No less than 10 seed per packet.
Seed Starting and Growing: Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.
About You Grow Girl Seeds:
All of the seeds that I sell were lovingly homegrown and harvested by me, small scale, in my urban garden using organic methods only -- no chemicals or pesticides whatsoever. Tomato varieties are isolated to stay true using the flower bagging method and I test for germination quality. I take special care in choosing varieties that I find unusual, interesting and fabulous, and/or especially suitable for growing in small space gardens.
